Review: Starsailor - On the Outside

Well, well, here is the third album of the British band James Walsh is the mastermind of this group, with an attractive appearance and a much more charming voice. It seems that these guys do their best to surprise us with every new release. "On the outside" is a fine album, with charming melodies, fine vocals. But there are many new things to face in this new album. There is much more distortion guitar and the voice of Walsh is more "wild" than ever till now.

More of the tracks have a mid tempo, but there are also some classic Starsailor ballads (do you remember "Alcoholic"?). The best songs are the first two tracks. In the Crossfire is the album's biggest hit, with great refren and couple which you will love after the first time you listen to it. My favorite song is Counterfeit Life with great rythym guitars and such a great refren. It is one of the best songs of 2005, to my personal view.

The production is made by Rob Schnapf and the album was released under the EMI label. It's undoubtely a fine album, which you can pleasantly listen at till the end. Imagine of the Starsailor, as they appeared in their first two albums, with the addition of dirty guitars and much more passion in vocals and you will have an idea of how the new album sounds.

I want to watch them live again, after their appearance at Rockwave Festival '04 in Athens. They were great at that gig.. I have to wait till then.

Brand New Depeche Mode Album.

The new album of Depeche Mode was released at October 18, 2005. The title of the album is "Playing the Angel". It is the first albume where David Gahan (singer) wrote 3 songs and that is remarkable. The other songs are written from Martin Gore. The production is made by Ben Hillier. The album uses colors of lately 80s - early 90s.

Many critics say that Depeche mode are getting better with this album. In Los Angeles Times the say that "There's an unexpected freshness to most of the songs". Rolling Stones declares that "The formula remains largely the same, although the group adds some production tricks, dialing down the perv factor and turning up some extra chirps and bloops they haven't used before", and Pitchfork announce that "If you really are the sort of person who's been waiting with bated breath for a new Depeche Mode release, then don't worry: You'll love this. Dear everyone else: It's pretty okay.".

Gahan vocals are absolutely fine. The synth pop trio seems to be in a very good shape and everybody is very satisfied with this release, even though it isn't something new. Let's enjoy their music..

P.S. Of course there are many Music Magazines where you can have magazine subscriptions in order to get information about releases like this.

New Coldplay Video directed by Anton Corbijn

Anton Corbijn is an important photographer who has directed several clips of Nirvana, Depeche Mode. So he is so famous that Colplay approached him. They suggested that he should direct their new video clip for the song "Talk". The result is great black and white clip with a strange sence and a b movie feeling (as he said)

Corbijn said: "I have turned down previous requests from Coldplay to do a script for their songs, but I liked this song and had an idea straightaway. It is always the idea and the song that counts, not the size of the band. I just as happily work with [songwriter/abstract artist] Joseph Arthur, for instance, as with a big band. The only redeeming factor in that sense is that I know the video from the big band will get MTV airplay.

The Answer of Tarja

Tarja had to answer at the announcements of the group members. We didn't have to wait for long. The answer was given from her, at her official site. Here is a copy of her answer

Since last Sunday morning, I have been asked to express my position by magazines, newspapers, radio and TV stations, fan clubs and fans from Finland and from all over the world. So many in total that it is physically impossible for me to find the time to reply to them all individually. Hence I decided to put down a couple of words in this text to let my fans, family and friends and the public know how I feel after the recent events.
This is a moment of grief and pain and I find it very hard to speak.

At the moment I am in Argentina. I hope you can understand that after this shocking life change comparable to a divorce, I didn’t want to stay alone at home in Finland. My husband had booked his tickets to Argentina many months ago and I decided to travel with him at the last minute.

But the fact that I am in Argentina and the long distance should of course not be an excuse not to comment on the situation.

Last Friday 21st of October was a day the whole band had been waiting for a long time.

Practice started early in the morning. I was very sick and nervous because of the fact that I was not even able to sing during the rehearsals.

Also nervous because the concert programme was going to be longer than usual for a Nightwish concert. Furthermore we were going to have a special guest to perform with us, more wardrobe changes for myself than usual and for the first time big screens and bigger production on stage.

Not to forget that the concert was going to be recorded and filmed.

The five of us had finally made it to play Hartwall Arena.

Even though every one of us knew in advance that the concert was sold out, finally on stage, we saw that screaming, applauding and standing people took every seat. The feeling was unbelievable.

I will never forget how amazing it was to experience the Finnish audience’s gorgeous reception.

When the concert was over, I cried of happiness on stage. Happy tears because I was able to do my best as always even though I was sick. Happy tears because our long tour got the greatest possible ending and happy tears because of the best recognition an artist can get: applause and smiling faces.

At that moment I didn’t know that I was going to cry again soon.

After the concert, the guys of the band invited me backstage to join them and asked me to hug altogether. This felt strange as it was the same kind of hug we traditionally came together for before every concert. That tradition remained between us, even though the tension and increasing pressure already existed since a long period of time.

The immediate feeling in me was to thank them, which I did loudly but without any reply.

After this, they gave me a letter and asked me to read it the following day. The same letter that is now public.

I read it and was shocked.

I didn’t know what to say and still at the moment that I am writing these lines, I don’t.

I sense great anger in that letter and I continue to have very confused feelings about it, but I don’t want to reply to this anger with an even greater anger. Private matters should never be taken to the public.

I know this moment we are going through is very sad for everybody, including the guys.

While there would have been so many different possibilities and ways to express what they wanted to tell me with the letter, I remain unable to understand the way they chose to handle this. I am sorry that the guys got me so wrong. I don’t recognize myself at all from the way they described me.

They mentioned mean things about me, but the fact that they involved Marcelo, my husband, crossed the line. He is the man I love, my friend and has been my biggest support over the last years.

We have been band mates for 9 years, experienced good times and not so good ones. I thought I knew them, but I was wrong.

Still everything that has happened is not enough to make them evil in my eyes.

Now comes a time to calm down and reflect upon all of this.

I need to put my feelings together again and I promise to come back to public soon.
I will announce a press conference where I will be talking about my future plans. This doesn’t mean that you should expect this conference to be an instrument to attack anybody. It won’t.

The wonderful music we created together won’t be touched by recent events.

Thanks a lot to all the people who are supporting me during these sad times. My family, friends, colleagues, and the great number of fans. I love you and I really feel I have not failed you.

Tarja tries to be polite with her ex band. Let see who will win the impressions from this struggle.

Nightwish say goodbye to Tarja

Of course it wasn't such a friendly goodbye. But its a truth. Tarja isn't a member of Nightwish anymore. Nightwish were tough with her, in their announcement about her. Tuomas wrote a letter for Tarja. What he says is not good for the young singer. Let see a part of that letter:

"Dear Tarja,

It`s time to choose whether the story of Nightwish ends here or whether it will still continue an undetermined period of time. We`ve been working with this creation for 9 years and we are not ready to give up yet. Nightwish is a way of life, something to live for, and we`re certain we can`t let it go.

Equally certain is the fact that we cannot go on with you and Marcelo any longer. During the last year something sad happened, which I`ve been going over in my head every single day, morning and night. Your attitude and behavior don`t go with Nightwish anymore. There are characteristics I would never have believed to see in my old dear friend. People who don`t talk with each other for a year do not belong in the same band."

Will Nightwish find a new Tarja? Or even a better female vocalist? Will Tarja go on with a solo cariera? She has already recorded a track with electro composer Schiller

The answer of Tarja will follow..

Scary tease by Thom Yorke

Thom Yorke, vocalist of Radiohead, declared in a teasing mode (thank God), that after the first 2 weeks of recording, the group will break up, but he immediately added that he was just joking. The first recordings of the new album are completed, but they were also very exhausting.. We don't know neither the title, nor the release day of the new album (obviously that will happen many months later)

Radiohead is my favorite "present" group. I can't wait.. Kaiser, Franz, Strokes, Interpol, Bloc Party and many other one -or two albums- wonders are just fine.. but Radiohead is something much more..

Probably the best Radiohead album, Ok Computer

I now listen to the "Razorblade".. wow! Its is just a Stroke hit... I think that everybody will love the new Strokes. The other two songs are: "15 minutes of pain" and "On the other Side". January 3 is the release date.. Many people in this world can't wait..

My Morning Jacket brand new Album

The fans of the Kentucky band will be satisfied with the fourth album of My Morning Jacket. Many can say that their sound is close to Flaming Lips. But this album is an innovation. It doesn't sound like their last album. We can find here, reggae pop sessions that reminds me of The Clash, or mellotron vibes that give a -pink floyd- colour. But it is just the New My Morning Jacket Album.

Image hosted by

Many of the differences of that album are due to the co-production of John Leckie (of Stone Roses and Radiohead). Though there are many experimantal efforts in this album, it is undoubtely a pop record, but a pop record that will keep your attention.

New Deus Album after 6 years!

They are back! Deus, perhaps the most significant band from Belgium and one of the most important group in alternative rock history, are back with a new album, called Pocket Revolution. Everybody says three words about it: "Worth the waiting". The last Deus album was released at 1999 and it was called "The Ideal Crash". Deus have evolved since then.

Many can say that Deus with "Pocket REvolution" created the most commercial album they 've ever made, but everybody can find in their music, these fascinating chaotic colours that made them so attractive.

New Gothic/soul album from Massive Attack!

What else can we expect from this amazing band called Massive Attack. After the great OST "Danny the Dog", the band is going to release a new album in 2006. But the weird new is that this album will have gothic/soul colours. I can't imagine how can a gothic album sound by the Triphop masters. But I'm sure that it will be an interesting project. Let see if it will be succesful.

M.A. have already created five tracks. The member of the band, 3-D said: It was a very busy year. We made many recordings, and many talented people came into our studio, which is our second home. We have recorded vocals for 5 songs, and we have to record vocals for other 15 songs, till Christmas".

Many great musicians co operate for this album like Liz Frazier (Cocteau Twins), Beth Orton etc.

Oasis win the Q Awards!

It seems that finally the Gallagher bros have found the key to the problems of the great band. Oasis, after their last album, seem to be in great form. Their last album, 'Don't Believe The Truth' picked up the Best New Album award, at the very prestigious Q Awards.

The band also picked up the "Peoples Choice Award" for their last album. Gallaghers are completely back and that is a great new for everyone that loves brit pop.

But Coldplay picked up the biggest award with the recognition of being the Best Band In The World! Though many critics underestimate "X&Y", Coldplay created an album that almost everybody loved it.

Starsailor are ready for a new album!

The fans of this young band from England, will be satisfied. The brand new Starsailor album (their third album) will be released at October 17. The title of the album is "On the outside" and the first single is "In the Crossfire" (it was released at October 3).

The charismatic singer, James Walsh said "With this album there's elements of the first two albums. We've been trying to make sure the music's unrestrained, but it was important to get the lyrics right on this one too. I was getting there on the second album ('Silence Is Easy'). I wanted to make sure all the songs had cohesion and that the album had something to say as well as being great for people to listen to."

Here is the tracklist:
'In The Crossfire'
'Counterfeit Life'
'In My Blood'
'Faith Hope Love'
'I Don't Know'
'Way Back Home'
'Keep Us Together'
'Get Out While You Can'
'This Time'
'White Light'

Review: The Coral - The Invisible Invasion

Well, well!! Just a fine album. This is the third (almost three and a half if we add the mini album "Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker"). And they are improving their music in every new album. A great mixture of pop, psychedelia, hippy, blues, that everybody should give a chance. I am a Coral fan since their first album and the hit "Dreaming of You", but this album is beyond every expectation.

A great production by Geoff Barrow και Adrian Utley (producers of Portishead) comes to support this amazing album. John Skelly, vocalist, is just the right person to sing these songs. Strange lyrics, insane thoughts, distorted guitars create a crazy atmosphaire, but we love them.

I loved "Criples Town" (the best song of the album), "She sings in the morning". The hits "In the morning" (very pleasant) and "Something inside of me", are also great. Finally take a look at the weird "Operator" and "Arabian Sand" (when Skelly whispers "Can you dance with the lepers in the madman's house").

If you liked their previous album you 're gonna love them. EnJoy!!!

New Lamb Compilation!

Lamb is one of the greatest bands in trip hop, drum 'n bass, with many beautiful hits like Gabriel, One, Gorecki etc. They released their last album at 2003 ("between darkness and wonder") and now they are releasing a two-disc remix compilation appropriately entitled Lamb:Remixed. There is also a microsite where you can listen at their new songs.

But the members of the band are very active. Vocalist Lou Rhodes is releasing her solo debut Beloved One through her own label Infinite Bloom on November 21st, and Andy Barlow has a new project called Hoof- described as 'Zeppelin-esque Electro Funk', mixing technology with rhodes, guitars and live drums- that will be releasing something in the future.

It seems that there are many things to expect from the Manchester trip hop aces.

The title of Morissey's new album!

The new album of Morissey has a title at least. It's called "Ringleader Of The Tormentors". Morrissey describes the new album as "the most beautiful-- perhaps the most gentle so far". He also said that that will be a rock album, not slow like the last one. The album will be released in April. Let's see if he is right

After the 2004's "You are the quarry", which was a successfull album, Morissey will try hard to reach the top again. Wish him good luck!

Eric Kamen's new album

Eric Kamen is a great musician and composer. His new album is an instrumental album for New York. It's called "Native Unit". The music on this latest release reflects the diversity of that great city. In his 12 instrumental tracks he combines latin, world music, african musics, middle eastern mood and his midi sounds. All music is played by him.

He says: "Today’s music is so formulaic, in terms of chord progressions, beats and choice of sounds, that it does not give me enough opportunity to push myself anywhere close to my playing abilities". Lets see if he finally reaches his playing abilities..

The Killers

sophomore album!

The Killers sophomore album!

The Killers, after their hot debut album, called "Hot Fuss", are back for a new record. They had 12 songs and they have to choose which of them will be suitable for their new album. One of the most successfull new song they wrote is Where White Boys Dance. Vocalist, Brandon Flowers says: "We're holding on to it. It's our ace in the hole. It's a pop song, but when you hear it, it makes you feel dirty. Everybody's going to love it."

The Killers

The Killers will go to studio in January, but first they have to choose the suitable producer for this. Brandon says: "We have too many. If we could make another record like the first one, then I think it would be successful. But I want to get a producer who will mess with the parts, somebody with different ideas on how to arrange it. We've already proven that we can write a perfect pop song, but I admire bands like the Talking Heads for having hits that are still pop and rock, but out of the norm."

Lets hope that the new album of The Killers will be as good as their debut!
